Naturalization
There are various naturalization provisions that allow permanent residents (green card holders) to become U.S. citizens. The most common of these provisions is section 316(a) of the INA which allows a person who has been a permanent resident for at least 5 years to apply for naturalization. Biological or Adopted Children Residing in the U.S.
A biological or adopted child residing in the United States is a U.S. Citizen if at least one parent is a U.S. Citizen and certain other requirements are met. For a full list of the requirements, click here.
Biological or Adopted Children Residing Outside the U.S.
A biological or adopted child residing outside of the United States whose parent is a U.S. Citizens may qualify for naturalization. For a full list of the requirements, click here.
